"A touching story brimming with smart dialogue, sympathetic characters, an engaging narrative and the amusing, often self-deprecating observations of the heroine。 It's a novel with depth and a great deal of heart。" ---Romantic Times

2。5 stars - this was like a bad hallmark movie where you just want to scream at the characters。 Not sure I want to continue the series。。。 I like Higgins recent books but this was just too boring for me。

Malone and Maggie。 He's that super quite, rarely talks in sentences, uses single words and grunts instead。 I think it can be really hard to pull this character off and while he isn't the best I've read he's also not the worst。 That being said I just didnt really feel the chemistry between these too。 Not to mention I did not like ALOT of the characters:The Mom- man she was just a bitch。 So much so it made me really really not like her so its hard go turn that mentality around when the author Malone and Maggie。 He's that super quite, rarely talks in sentences, uses single words and grunts instead。 I think it can be really hard to pull this character off and while he isn't the best I've read he's also not the worst。 That being said I just didnt really feel the chemistry between these too。 Not to mention I did not like ALOT of the characters:The Mom- man she was just a bitch。 So much so it made me really really not like her so its hard go turn that mentality around when the author tries to explain her actions and get you to like herThe ex Skip- I get that he was used so Malone could sweep in and save her but why did he have to be digging at her with all the questions and superiority then when she goes to confront him he's sorry? The 2 personalities didn't add upThe priest- i could not stand Father Tim。 What priest continues to flirt and be overly friendly to a women who clearly is in love (or crush) with him。 Not to mention he completely uses that to get free food and help for his parish。 Shame on himThere were just so many characters that were awful to Maggie and even though Malone wasn't awful to her he also didnt show any emotions except lust。 。。。more

I just loved Maggie。 I got through the book because I wanted her to find her happiness。 I mean 80% of the book you kind of feel bad for her, but you can't help yourself rooting for her。 Usually the in these kind of romance novel to get to know about the heroine's love interest to too but not in this book。 He's a man of very few words。 So if you're looking for a "sizzling" hot novel this is not for you。 But if you like someone who tries really hard, bumbles on the way, with many lol moments and I just loved Maggie。 I got through the book because I wanted her to find her happiness。 I mean 80% of the book you kind of feel bad for her, but you can't help yourself rooting for her。 Usually the in these kind of romance novel to get to know about the heroine's love interest to too but not in this book。 He's a man of very few words。 So if you're looking for a "sizzling" hot novel this is not for you。 But if you like someone who tries really hard, bumbles on the way, with many lol moments and fun quirky characters, I'm sure this book will entertain you。 I highly encourage the audiobook version。 The narration by Xe sands is excellent。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This was my first Kristan Higgins book, and I liked it, it was very sweet chick lit。A lot of the antics had me laughing, the thing I liked about Maggie was most of the time, things did not go as planned and she was a real underdog。 Her twin sister had the perfect life and you were slightly sad for her and continually rooting for her。 (Although a note on the twin thing, who names twin girls Margaret Christine and Christine Margaret??)Anyway, all the characters were great and they changed and This was my first Kristan Higgins book, and I liked it, it was very sweet chick lit。A lot of the antics had me laughing, the thing I liked about Maggie was most of the time, things did not go as planned and she was a real underdog。 Her twin sister had the perfect life and you were slightly sad for her and continually rooting for her。 (Although a note on the twin thing, who names twin girls Margaret Christine and Christine Margaret??)Anyway, all the characters were great and they changed and grew。 I hated that she killed off Colonel though, that was not cool。 Malone was the minimal words, broody guy but he was sweet too in his own way。Overall I liked it, but I'm not sure I can read another book of hers where she builds up the dog/human relationship then kills the dog off。 。。。more

Catch of the Day was a good audiobook following a woman trying to find the life that she wants to live even though her twin's perfect life with her husband and child could be discouraging at times。 She loves her sister but being single woman in a small town is not always easy especially when you're looking for a man to share you life with。 Not a lot of eligible men lives there but with the help of a priest (which she had a crush on before she knew he was a priest), she'll try to find the love of Catch of the Day was a good audiobook following a woman trying to find the life that she wants to live even though her twin's perfect life with her husband and child could be discouraging at times。 She loves her sister but being single woman in a small town is not always easy especially when you're looking for a man to share you life with。 Not a lot of eligible men lives there but with the help of a priest (which she had a crush on before she knew he was a priest), she'll try to find the love of her life。 Turns out, Malone is that man。 He's a mystery and while he's pretty quiet, he has a heart underneath his burly exterior。 Overall, I really enjoyed listening to this story。 It was entertaining and I had a good time。 The ending which wasn't as satisfying as I hoped it would be but that's okay。 。。。more

FunThis was a fun story full of humor, sarcasm, family and small town dynamics, a few tear-jerking moments along the way, and a HEA。 Could have done without the bad language, but the story was enjoyable。

Story 4。25 stars Narration 5 stars。 Pretty much listened to this straight through with only a few breaks。 Good story for the most part。 Narration by Xe Sands was wonderful as always。 The priest storyline got a bit tiresome at times and the heroine Maggie not finding out the facts before she does and says things got tiresome as well。 However, I did enjoy this book a lot and will definitely keep listening as long as Xe Sands narrates。 And as an added bonus, its the first book in a long time to Story 4。25 stars Narration 5 stars。 Pretty much listened to this straight through with only a few breaks。 Good story for the most part。 Narration by Xe Sands was wonderful as always。 The priest storyline got a bit tiresome at times and the heroine Maggie not finding out the facts before she does and says things got tiresome as well。 However, I did enjoy this book a lot and will definitely keep listening as long as Xe Sands narrates。 And as an added bonus, it’s the first book in a long time to bring me to tears even though I realized what was going to happen。 Recommended to adult contemporary romance readers as well as chic-lit readers。 。。。more

This was a fun book to read。 The chacters caught my interest right away。 How does anyone keep their life private in a small town, especially if they always accidentally spill the beans on themselves? Enjoyed this book and will move on to the second book in this three book series。 Can't wait to see what happens next。 Thank Kristan for yet another enjoyable read。

Another nice piece of fluff- with a few questions from me- why wouldnt Malone ever eat in Maggies restaurant, whats the new dogs name, and could we know more about Malone? Will he ever really start talking。 。。。And Father Tim just goes away- great friend! Hmmmpphhh! I give this 3。5 stars- Goodreads should give us a 5 or 10 star option- I usually dont like giving a 3- if I were allowed to give books a 7, it would make me much happier! I read this one a short while after reading "The Best Man", and I think that was my biggest mistake。 The thing was, the books were almost identical, with "The Best Man", her boyfriend comes out as gay, so she's like OMG I can't believe I was in love with a gay man, and then this one, her potential boyfriend reveals himself as a clergyman, so she's like OMG I can't believe I was in love with a priest, both books I think had former baseball players or something like that, and yeah。 This one was I read this one a short while after reading "The Best Man", and I think that was my biggest mistake。 The thing was, the books were almost identical, with "The Best Man", her boyfriend comes out as gay, so she's like OMG I can't believe I was in love with a gay man, and then this one, her potential boyfriend reveals himself as a clergyman, so she's like OMG I can't believe I was in love with a priest, both books I think had former baseball players or something like that, and yeah。 This one was especially terrible though with the protagonist repeatedly freaking out about how she was in love with a priest。 It ceased to be funny; it was simply annoying, and because it was a rehash of "The Best Man", where her ex was gay and she couldn't quit thinking OMG he was gay and I loved him!。。。 both books because of it instantly felt insanely dull/repetitive。 The first one, "The Best Man", by itself, was okay, liked it, but this one, I didn't like it, and retroactively it sort of made me dislike "The Best Man"。 Anyway, because of it, it was probably an author-killing experience, meaning it's doubtful I'll read another book by the author。Rating, I don't want to give it two stars。 One is a bit unfair。 One and a half would be perfect。。。 I don't want to leave it un-rated though。。。 *sigh* I'll give it one star, with the caveat that it's really one and a half, and a large reason I didn't like it was because of its similarity with "The Best Man", which I'd just read。 If I hadn't read that one, I may have liked this one more。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this earlier book。 I could almost hear the usual audiobook readers reading the lines! I tried reading it aloud to my kitty a bit, but the only part of the Maine accent I can really manage to do is "ayuh。" My cat is not impressed。 This book had, as always, its sad death, but otherwise is a good read。

I love Kristan Higgins, and Catch of the Day did not disappoint! It follows the story of Maggie, a diner owner and dog lover, who is hopelessly crushing on the town priest, Father Tim, and trying to find the man of her dreams。 What ensues is a series of horrible dates that any serial daters can relate to and an unexpected romance with Malone, the surly but surprisingly kind lobsterman who shows up for Maggie when she least expects it。 But Malone is quiet and hard to read and Maggie struggles to I love Kristan Higgins, and Catch of the Day did not disappoint! I laughed out loud more than once and Maggie's life and thoughts were so relatable。 She was an amazing main character。 I also got very emotional during the middle of the book when a tragedy befalls her。 Maggie is a super relatable character and such a fun main character。 I also liked Malone, but I wished we would have gotten to know him more。The bad:Nothing, really! I could have done without some of the cursing and more of who Malone was, but it was a fun, light-hearted read! 。。。more
